Edel Kunkel founded Mountainside Montessori School in 2003 to give her daughters a Montessori education. Since then, the school has grown from four students to 40. We offer programs to meet the needs of children in the first plane of development, from 2-1/2 years old to age 6. The mission of Mountainside Montessori School is to meet the highest standards of Montessori education in a place that children can learn, grow, and enjoy.

Our teachers are certified by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI).

Mountainside Montessori is at an exciting stage of its growth. We have signed a contract to purchase a 10-acre property on Belvoir Road, where we plan to move our school in September 2011. We are pursuing a one-year Special Exception to meet the needs of our Elementary students (age 6 to 12) at our current campus for the 2010-2011 school year.

Throughout its growth, Mountainside has maintained the same sense of community that its first three families enjoyed. Our Mountainside community includes parents who come into the classrooms to read stories, share their knowledge or talents, or help with special projects. Mountainside field trips include the entire family. Special events like our Back-to-School Party, Holiday Concert, Parent-Child Night, and the End-of-School Picnic cement friendships between families.
